Luke Botica, long-time KPMG CPA partner, leader of the HealthSouth investigation and financial restatement, public company C-Suite executive, board member and veteran investigator of many frauds and financial irregularities, joined MalekRemian as Managing Director. Luke has taken many companies public as CFO or consultant. He has also been CEO, VP of Treasury Operations, and served other C-Suite roles, in total serving 10 public companies. Luke has immediately assumed key roles in cases involving audit failures and financial and operating issues within his wide industry experience.
Malek and Cavaiani will serve as experts in matters involving efficacy and business plan feasibility for technology products. Malek is a Senior Member of the IEEE who is named inventor on twenty issued US utility patents covering cellular, public safety radio, and cordless technologies. Cavaiani’s prior positions include Director of Product Marketing and Partner Management at BMW Technology Corp and National VP of Marketing and Sales for National Semiconductor.

Ken Malek served on the 2020 ABI/AIRA VALCON Advisory Board. The annual conference was held in Las Vegas in February. This year’s theme, “How to Flex When in Flux” brought together experts in the distressed-debt, restructuring and valuation industries.
Ken Malek has been a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy since 1996, inducted as part of the College’s VIIth Class of Fellows. The College is an honorary association of leading restructuring practitioners who have distinguished themselves through case results, scholarship, and contributions to the profession. From 2015 through 2019, Ken served as a member of the College’s Board of Regents, which is responsible for the College’s annual nomination and approval process of admitting new Fellows.
Ken Malek served as a panelist with Moderator Brian L. Shaw, Daniel A. Aronson, Hon. Ronald Barliant (ret.), and Patrick J. Nash, addressing “Nothing Up My Sleeve: Could It Be Any Vaguer? Ethics and Disclosure Requirements of Rule 2014,” relating to professional retention and disinterestedness issues in court-supervised debt restructurings.
Ken Malek served on the 2019 ABI/AIRA VALCON Advisory Board and as a speaker at the annual conference in Las Vegas. Along with co-panelists Thomas J. Allison, Hon. Bruce A. Markell (ret.), and Adam Pilchman, he spoke on “Duties of PE-Controlled Boards, Their Counsel, and Valuation Advisors.”
Ken Malek was on the 2018 ABI/AIRA VALCON Advisory Board in addition to being a panelist. Along with Diana Hopkins, Sylvia Cho and Patrick Nash, he spoke on the “Indicators of Future Distress: A Retrospective on the Role of the Board in Monitoring for Insolvency and Identifying Where Valuations Fall Short.”
